Project Overview
During my first internship in Summer 2022, I redesigned the website for SocialiiASD & Autism Job Club, projects ran under Spero Canada. I was tasked with creating a new brand look for the two intertwined programs and reflecting this look on a remodelled website.

Building Process

Understanding My Audience
The first step was realizing the website needed to be tailored towards a neurodiverse audience. Flashy transitions and sleek and stylish pages were not important for this website. Ensuring easy navigation, being purposeful with each page, and limiting and visual distractions were key components implemented in the design.

Creating Samples
While I didn’t mock up any pages on Figma for this project (Figma was very new to me at the time), we went through a couple drafts of design ideas and what things should look like. We had to create and finalize colour palettes, button styles, text styles, spacings, shapes, and other design elements that needed to be consistent through the website. While we didn’t have a definitive descision on all of the design elements, we had a rough idea of what the page should look like.

Reviewing With The Brand’s Customers
As pages were built, frequent board meetings looked at the progress made on the website. This step was especially important for ensuring I was creating a website that was effective on both its visual appearance and functionality. Many changes like AODA compliant colours, accesiblity tools, and layout changes were noted and implemented in the design.

Finalizing My Product
Once my work term came to an end, I made sure any signifigant outstanding features were added. I wanted to make sure enough core changes had been implemented in the website so that it can be maintained by someone else following the same guidelines I did. While new additions have been made since I last worked on the website, the core brand ideas still live in the design.
